This week our task was to find a website which we consider as a trustworthy site and a website which we thought was untrustworthy. The website were to relate to our blogs theme which is lifestyle and after a discussion in our group we decided to go with theguardian.com and radaronline.com for the websites. “Factors influencing credibility on the Web” (Wathen & Burkell 2002) gave a guideline to how to define a website as trustworthy or untrustworthy.
The Guardians website is trustworthy because the website has a professional appearance. It is also easy to navigate and easy to use.You can simply find specifically sport-related news or other articles with a certain topic. The links work quick and smooth, there is no extra pop-up commercials or such popping up everytime you click an article you want to read. Picture and text quality is also spot on, there seems to be no grammatical errors or misspelled words.
Radaronline.com on the other hand would definitely characterize as an untrustworthy site. First, when you visit the site there is bad quality pictures on the front page. Even though the over all color theme is quite simple and okay, there is a lot of stuff going on all over the webpage such as articles, pictures, advertise ments etc. Once you click a link open, it takes a while longer to download all the information on the site compared to theguardian.com and the site doesn't run as smooth.
